After only two episodes the CW series The Beautiful Life has already been canceled. Wow, two episodes. That's pretty sad. I guess Mischa Barton is out of work again. I thought the show had potential when I heard about it. Sex, drugs and the modeling world, but it turned out to be pretty boring. There was less focus on the dark side of things and more on the two sweet naive kids batting their eyes at each other. Where were all the pills? And the coke? And the sex? It premiered Sept. 16 to just 1.5 million viewers and dropped for the second episode. Not good. Bye bye Beautiful Life.

Patrick Swayze Loses Battle with Cancer

Patrick Swayze died Monday after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 57.

"Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months," his publicist, Annett Wolf, said in a statement Monday evening.

Many celebrities including Jennifer Grey, C. Thomas Howell, Demi Moore and many others have spoken about the loss. Even though he had been battling the disease since March 2008 Swayze continued to work on several projects and wrote pieces directed to Congress about funding cancer research. Thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Dragon Con 2009

The same weekend I got to take in the Britney concert I also attended Dragon Con for the first time. It was amazing! For those who don’t know it is the largest multi-media, popular culture convention focusing on science fiction and fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, music, and film in the US. There were crazy costumed people everywhere. There were also a lot of strategically placed bars scattered throughout the hotels. All of the people were really friendly and enthusiastic. It was very overwhelming but also really incredible. Every few days I’ll post some pictures from it. The majority are from the parade where thousands of people came out to watch costumed participants march down the streets of Atlanta. It was fantastic!

At last night’s VMAs Kayne West stole the stage. Literally. When Taylor Swift went up to accept her award he took the mic from her a said Beyonce’s Single Women video was the best of the year. Poor Taylor. She seemed so excited to be up on the stage receiving an award. When Kanye came up, she looked a little confused but still excited until he began to talk. He ruined her whole night. It must be fun crushing the dreams of a 17 year old on live television. At least Beyonce was able to redeem the situation a little when she won video of the year and called Taylor on stage to give her acceptance speech.

This past weekend I went to the Britney concert in Atlanta and it was one of the most incredible things I’ve ever seen. It was a couple hours of pure fantasticness. She looked incredible and never stopped moving the entire time. Her ability to dance and run across the stage in extremely high heels is impressive. Even though I was surrounded by horrible disgusting people grinding on each other and singing along really atrociously it was worth it. I really love how she changes up her set list and costumes at every show. Also, it really seemed like she was having a great time performing and was genuinely happy to be there. I figured it’s been too long since I featured a good drink so I thought I’d go back to one of the best cocktails to get you a little sauced after a long day of work – The Dirty Shirley. This is basically the alcoholic version of the regular Shirley Temple. What I really love about this drink is that it has all of the wonderful deliciousness of childhood with the oh so satisfying alcohol of adulthood. A wonderful combination. It is also very easy to make. The recipe only requires either rum or vodka (I like rum best), sprite, grenadine and some cherries. Mix the rum/vodka with some Sprite in whatever ratio you prefer over ice. Then add a splash of grenadine and some cherries. Poof… the wonderfully delicious Dirty Shirley.

Here’s the trailer for the upcoming horror flick Sorority Row about a group of sorority sister that kind of accidentally kill their sister. They hide the body and act like nothing happened. It’s a remake of the 83 film The House on Sorority Row. I would say a bunch of sorority girls getting killed should be entertainment enough to see this, but then I found out Carrie Fisher is in it! She plays the house mother and the trailer shows her talking to the killer while holding a big gun. I’m already getting Blues Brother flashbacks. I know that I have to see it now.

If you haven’t seen the ABC Family television show based off the 1999 movie you should watch it. The show is definitely better than the film. The writing is much better and far more believable. The Kat character seems to make more sense. In the movie, Julia Styles was supposed to be the scary outsider girl but really she looked more like that hippie girl who wears hemp and listens to Widespread Panic. In the show, Kat is played by Lindsey Shaw and is a more realistic as the strong feminist character. The younger sister Bianca is not the selfish, spoiled girl from the film. Instead, she just seems like a girl who desperately wants to be popular. She has good intentions and a very sunny outlook on life. The show’s cast seems to be more fitting and believable as a remake of Taming the Shrew. Anyway, the show is good, much better than the movie. Check it out Tuesdays at 8 pm on ABC Family.

The Flatwoods Monster

On a recent road trip I stopped in the town of Flatwoods, WV. This is where the Flatwoods Monster was sighted in 1952. It is a ten foot creature with a red, glowing face and a green body. I just love a good monster sighting. Unfortunately I wasn’t around during the yearly Flatwoods Monster festival, but the town did have banners with the monster’s picture hanging along the streets. Here is a blurb about the discovery.

7:15 PM on the evening of September 12, 1952, two brothers, Edward and Fred May, and their friend Tommy Hyer (ages 13, 12, and 10 respectively) witnessed a bright object cross the sky. The object appeared to come to rest on land belonging to local farmer G. Bailey Fisher.

Upon witnessing the object, the boys went to the home of the May brothers' mother, Kathleen May, where they reported seeing a UFO crash land in the hills. From there, Mrs. May accompanied by the three boys, local children Neil Nunley (14) and Ronnie Shaver (10), and 17 year old West Virginia National Guardsman Eugene 'Gene' Lemon, traveled to the Fisher farm in an effort to locate whatever it was that the boys had seen.

Lemon's dog ran ahead out of sight and suddenly began barking, and moments later ran back to the group with its tail between its legs. After traveling about ¼ of a mile the group reached the top of a hill, where they reportedly saw a large pulsating "ball of fire" about 50 feet to their right. They also detected a pungent mist that made their eyes and nose burn. Lemon then noticed two small lights over to the left of the object; underneath a nearby oak tree, and directed his flashlight towards them, revealing the creature, which is reported to have emitted a shrill hissing noise and to have begun to glide towards them before changing direction and heading off towards the red light. At this point the group fled in panic.

Many of the witnesses also suffered the same illness after encountering the creature.

Pee-wee is Back!

That’s right. Paul Reubens is reviving one of the greatest characters from not only my childhood but all time. The Pee-wee Herman Show is a theatrical production that will run from November 19-29 in Hollywood. The show is going to be similar to the original stage performance which led to the great Pee-wee’s Big Adventure and Pee-wee’s Playhouse. Several of the characters from the show will make an appearance including some of Pee-wee’s frequent visitors, Chairry and Pterri. Tickets go on sale today. I hope it does well. Here’s a little Pee-wee nostalgia.

John Hughes Dies at 59

Writer/director John Hughes died of a heart attack Thursday morning in New York. He made some of the most memorable movies of the 80’s and 90’s including The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Sixteen Candles, National Lampoon’s Vacation, Pretty in Pink, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, Home Alone, Uncle Buck, and Weird Science along with many others. Molly Ringwald released a statement saying,

"I was stunned and incredibly sad to hear about the death of John Hughes," Ringwald said in a statement. "He was and will always be such an important part of my life."

"He will be missed - by me and by everyone that he has touched," she added. "My heart and all my thoughts are with his family now."

20 year old High School Musical star/ Zac Efron’s girlfriend seems to be reliving the nude photo scandal from 2007. More nude pics have made their way to the internet. It’s funny because just a week or so ago she was on the cover of Parade and discussed the first scandal in it.

"That's why I'm extremely guarded. I really do try to watch everything I say. Because one little tiny slip, and it's like the world is coming to an end!"

Hmmm… maybe she should stop watching what she says and start watching what photos she takes of herself. You would think celebs would learn by now. Nude photos and sex tapes always get leaked. Paquin, 27, and Moyer, 39, have been “officially” dating since early this year. The two True Blood stars have seemed really happy whenever spotted out together. I wonder if this will have any effect on Moyer’s character Bill sticking around longer on the show than he does in the books. I hope so.

Paula Abdul Finally Quits American Idol

It seems like Paula Abdul has threatened to leave American Idol ten different times now. This time it may be for real. She made an announcement through twitter that stated, “With sadness in my heart, I've decided not to return" to Fox's singing contest, Abdul said on her Twitter account. "I'll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from day 1 become an international phenomenon." Fox executives have backed this up commenting on her contributions to the show. Who knows if it’s for real this time. I wish she would just make up her mind already.

Half Blood Prince Delivers

There were many people that said the Harry Potter movies wouldn’t get nearly as much attention now since all of the books have been published. It seems they were very wrong. The sixth movie is the highest grossing of them all and my favorite. Most critics agree. It has an over 80% rating at Rotten Tomatoes which has fluctuated between 83 and 98%. If you haven’t seen it you should. It’s long but holds attention and is full of sexual innuendoes. It’s the dirtiest Potter yet! Here are some pics.

There has already been a lot of buzz about the twilight kids discussing their new movie at this year's Comic-Con. I'm not a huge Twilight fan, but the fact that Kristen Stewart showed up to their panel looking like this makes me really like her.

The New Alice

The first trailer for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland is out, and it looks fantastic. There are so many incredible people in it. I can’t wait for the next trailer. I really want to see what Alan Rickman looks like as the caterpillar. Unfortunately it doesn’t come out until March, but here is the first trailer for now.

M.I.A. made a scene at the Grammys earlier this year when she performed in the sheer polka dot mini dress while nine months pregnant. Personally, I thought she was beyond awesome and looked great especially for it to be her due date. The designer that made her dress also made a mini version for her son. Check it out.

Like anything else stands a chance. Degrassi Junior High and High make one of the best teen shows ever. Covering every issue ever, the low budget and awkward teens were wonderful. Remember the episode where the girls smoke pot at Diane's birthday party or when the school burns down at the year end dance. Oh and there's the one where Shane takes acid and jumps off a bridge. True Blood is Back

HBO’s series True Blood is back for season 2 on June 14th. For those who haven’t seen it the show focuses on co-existence of vampires and humans in Bon Temps, Louisiana. It focuses on Sookie Stackhouse , a telepathic waitress who falls for the new vampire in town, Bill Compton. Packed full of sex, drugs, blood, mystical people and more, there is plenty to suck you in.

Miss California Canned… Finally

After all of the controversy surrounding the now former Miss California, Carrie Prejean, she has finally been fired from the position. It wasn’t hating on same sex marriage or posing nude that did it. No, it was violating her contract that finally led Donald Trump to give the go ahead in firing her. In a press conference Keith Lewis stated, “This was a decision based solely on contract violations. After our press conference in New York we had hoped we would be able to forge a better working relationship. However, since that time it has become abundantly clear that Carrie has no desire to fulfill her obligations under our contract and work together.” Prejean doesn’t agree with this. She told TMZ, "They don't agree with the stance that I took [on Proposition 8]. They don't like me. From day one they wanted me out and they got what they wanted." Right. That’s why they stood by her when she was speaking out against gay marriage, and then they didn’t release her when nude pictures of her surfaced, something that has always led to termination in the past. Uhhh. Maybe this means she will finally go away.

Degrassi Goes Hollywood

I’m a huge Degrassi fan and glad to see that it’s still kickin, but Degrassi Goes Hollywood seems a little ridiculous even by Degrassi standards. First of all, I do not like seeing Marco yell at Paige like that. He better apologize. But really, when did she become famous? Apparently she is supposed to have some hills-like story line. She is the assistant to one of the characters on the show, but then gets a part in a real movie. Then there is Manny. I really hope we don’t have to hear her “act” because it is painful to watch. Apparently Jason Mewes is making a movie “Mewesical High” so it means there will be singing and over acting, and of course Manny will get to be in it. There is some Craig/Ellie stuff which could be good as long and they don’t do what has been happening for the past couple of years where there is romantic tension but everything just stays the same.

No matter what it is Degrassi so there will be some awesome Canadian teen-ness involved. I’m sure it will be fun to watch even if it does lean towards the ridiculous side. It airs sometime this summer on the N.

Much Better Than the History Books

Sure the show The Tudors may not be 100% accurate, but it is packed full of pretty people getting the axe, the sex and the King’s wrath. It gives a good basic overview of Henry the IIX’s reign while also providing plenty of soap operay goodness. Many famous faces of the UK appear on the show, one of the most famous being King Henry played by Jonathon Rhys Meyers. My personal favorite is Henry Cavill who plays the King’s good friend Charles Brandon. He’s fun to watch whether he is being carefree doing all the girls of England or once he grows up and takes on his responsibility being a duke. Either way, he’s pretty and does a good job of showing Brandon’s natural transformation into real adulthood.

The first two seasons focus primarily on the country-rattling relationship between Henry and Anne Boleyn. The season covers several years but is able to show the progression of their relationship along with Henry’s leadership. One of the best aspects of season 2 is seeing Anne’s transformation from powerful lady to queen and eventually paranoid mess.

Season three then moves on to show wives three and four. It just came to an end but season 4 has been announced. It seems that wives five and six will have their time next spring.

The Tudors may not be the show to watch if you are looking for a completely accurate historical account of Henry IIX, but if you are looking for some steamy goodness it is definitely worth watching.

No Seriously, Get Me Out of Here

Last Tuesday I saw a clip from the Monday night's episode of I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here that showed Heidi crying, complaining about how mean people are, and whining about bug bites. It seemed like maybe the show would be satisfying if that kind of thing happened. Wrong. I watched the next night's episode and it was horrifying. I got stupider by the minute from watching it. First of all, there really aren't that many bad things that happen to them. The commercials and hype about it made it seem like more things would happen. The contestants mostly sit around in the jungle and whine about random things. Secondly, Heidi and Spencer talked about Jesus the ENTIRE time. It was creepy. They kept talking about what God would want them to do. Spencer then started yelling and got hostile with one of the female contestants. Yes, that is what Jesus would do. Later he was baptized in the river by Stephen Baldwin. Yes, Stephen Baldwin. Like I said, creepy.

Paulina Strikes Back

Recently Paulina Porizkova has been speaking out about the way she was let go from over the top reality show America’s Next Top Model. Not only was she fired due to an ego problem, but she was told on her birthday. It’s hilarious to think of Tyra firing Paulina over a large ego. Has she looked at any of the other judges? There’s he ridiculously over the top Miss J who is always looking for attention is some way. Next is the “photographer” Nigel Barker who threw a hissy fit this past season because one of the contestants mentioned the most recent photo shoot was her favorite to date when he had shot them in a previous shoot. Tyra even encouraged his fit. Of course we cannot forget Tyra herself. In one of the first episodes of the season she dressed like a greek goddess and had shirtless men feed her grapes. No, no ego at all there.

Paula said the only “ego moments” she could think of were when she complained about Tyra being six hours late for judging. She also mentioned how Tyra never spoke to her unless the cameras were rolling. “I wouldn’t know [what kind of person She also mentioned how Tyra never spoke to her unless the cameras were rolling. “I wouldn’t know [what kind of person Tyra is] because all I know of her is literally when we are on set talking to each other in front of the cameras. That is the only time she would speak to me.” This seems about right. I’m sure no one else exists in that crazy world Tyra lives in. I’m sure it is a very special place.

Janice Dickinson mentioned that sounded right to her. Apparently she was offered a raise one week and then was fired the next. Unlike Dickinson, Paulina Porizkova said there is no way she will make a guest appearance in the future. Good for her. She can do a lot better than the freak show that is America’s Next Top Model.
